Frequently Asked Questions

Expand All:

Do I have to prep this the night before?

Overnight oats are best made the night before so the oats and chia seeds have time to absorb the liquid and soften. But if you're in a pinch, 2–3 hours in the fridge can still work!

Can I use steel-cut oats instead of rolled oats?

Rolled oats give the creamiest texture, but if you only have steel-cut oats, you’ll need to soak them longer, at least 12 hours, and expect a chewier texture.

How long do overnight oats last in the fridge?

They’ll stay fresh for up to 4–5 days, so feel free to prep a few jars ahead for the week.

I don’t like chia seeds, can I leave them out?

Absolutely! Chia seeds help thicken the oats and add fibre, but the recipe still works without them. You can swap in ground flax if you’d like a similar boost.
